“I really love Mario Cravo Neto and his photos and this is one of my favorite books! It includes personal images of his father, his mother and his son and also some of my favorites: Man with Two Fish, Voodoo Figure, Ode, and White Mother. I would even say this is a collection of the “Best of” but he had so many fabulous images, there will never be enough books to hold them all.
I remember Mario and Miguel Rio Branco at Celina’s apartment in 1994, drinking whiskey with Elvis classics blaring in surround sound. They were barefoot and carefully stepping between about 100 photographs spread over the entire apartment floor, in the process of selecting images for a new book Mario was publishing. They couldn’t decide and reeled me in to help. So I took off my shoes, drank some whiskey and we were looking at all of these photos and DAMN – they were all great! Mario seemed to always get right to the very soul of anything he set his lens upon. He left us so much joy and wonder!”
